57a Wolseley shade or sun fade?

I finally found a Wolseley, which can actually be a little mission when I rely only on a local website and not on ebay. Naturally I've started to read up about it a little on the website and the codes, and I found that the "pale green" looks quite different and it made me wonder if that model might be prone to sun fade or if there might be a load of colour shades that aren't covered by the guide. I think I remember one of Antonin's photos in regards to the Prefect so is this another one of those?

Hello Kiwi78, it looks good, but the original colour chosen by Lesney for this model is very prone to 'Sunfade' issues. The interior in your two photos does seem to show a colour pretty close to the outside colour on the main body and if genuine, is giving credit to the possibility of your model being a new find. The trim looks like it may be of the Silver type which will date the model as being of later production than if it were of the Gold colour, so this may also allow for an alternative body colour to be used if the production run was close to finishing, but the correct colour had finished so they chose another suitable light colour to finish the run.

Can you take a picture of the baseplate, a picture of the base rivet and possibly another picture showing the inside of the body so we can get a better view of the inside colour.

Please don't rush the pictures as this will induce out of focus results and be no good to anyone, also do not worry too much if they are too dark, it is more important they are in focus, dark pictures can be corrected later, good luck.

Will do, give me a couple of days. I work night shifts so by the time I wake up the sun is usually gone and I'd rather do that in natural light. I'm quite interested myself so let's see how this turns out. Thanks.

It's not based on any hard facts (more of a gut feeling), but for models such as this where the gold trim version is hard to find and, looking at the neighbouring models (i.e, 56 and 58) gold-trimmed examples are unknown, I think it probably represents either an emergency or an accidental substitution for silver for a very limited number of models. That is to say that gold trim on a model is not automatically indicative of early production. The classic example of this is the 20a Stake Truck, where the pale green pre-production (which appears to have leaked out in extremely limited quantities with the initial release) has silver rather than gold trim.

Yes, Lesney pale green seems to fade to pale blue rather than yellow.

Thinking about it, I do have some evidence for my theory: my two gold-trimmed 21b Coaches. These are variations codes 2 and 3 rather than variation code 1.

I'm pretty sure Antonin also showed us a range of colours for this model which included a very yellow example. Hopefully he will see this thread and re-post.

When I put these photos on the #57 Casting show they did not get a mention, may be not all the collectors view it.

That third model looks like a reasonable colour match (but it's not the elusive grey/tan verion is it?).
