A dark green 74b Daimler bus?

Post by mike »

Thanks Idris has been this model approved for further discussion.

I found this dark green Daimler Bus in a purchased convolute.
The interior is beige and not white.

Please help and further information on this model.

Many thanks

Hello Mike,
interesting find, I already read the posts in your "Look at what I just got" thread.
I only have two green #74 Daimler Busses. But I think it's the same here: darker and brighter green. (But both with WHITE interior)
It was very hard to show the colour difference in a picture.
The pictures were made in daylight. They may could help.

And now I'am confused by all these shades of green, and feel like this ->

Happy collecting,
Linus

The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (first edition) notes two shades of green body: light green and green. (If I recall correctly, Kwakers has mentioned this previously but we have yet to see a photograph showing the difference.) Nick has only one green model listed at variation code 7.

There are two questions which need to be answered here:
1) Is Mike's dark green model an example of one of the NAMC's shades, or is it a new and distinct shade/colour, and
2) Does anyone else have a 74b with off-white/beige interior (irrespective of the body colour)?

Mike, looking at this model in terms of Nick's catalogue page, could you please let us know:
1) Whether the underbase opening is painted or not,
2) Are the windscreen pillars tapered or straight, and
3) Are the window braces fan-shaped?

Thanks Hugh for the quick reply. :D

I will set some further photos of the model.

That's an unpainted rear recess and what look to be straight window pillars. If we were to check, my guess is that we would find fan-shaped braces for the upper deck window pillars, so making this a variation code 7 except for the interior (and possibly the paint colour).
Can anyone with a code 1 (cream body with off-white interior) please comment on the colour of the interior of Mike's dark green bus? (Could this be yet another example of old stock being discovered in the stockroom and used out of sequence?)

Kay has examples identical to mine that are the same as Mike's dark shade and his light shade. These are the two distinct colors found in our U.S. stores and listed by Bob in his NAMC Guide. They are not just two shades, they are two very distinct color greens which I will have to compare to the models Mick has suggested might be the same. There is also a green which is right in the middle of these two that I consider a shade difference rather than a distinct 3rd green color. Kay also has one of those now, so maybe he can help out Caveman kwakers with pictures.
That interior color is unknown as far as I am aware of, making your bus very different Mike. Please look underneath the Bus though to make sure the bottom of the interior is the same off-white color. Your color is original on the outside paint, so I don't think the interior is sunfade, just a rare one I have never heard of Mike and Nico. Very Nice Find! kwakers
