Hello Mike,
I saw this, too. I would say it was originally a cream canteen but it's partly overpainted. The middle part looks more olive-green or ochre.
The base has been opened for detailing the interior. There are traces of glue to the front and rear of the base.
Maybe the work of a railroader.

Yes of course. Nothing for a perfectionist but all in all the htf cream canteen. And it's cheap til now

I might be difficult to remove the detail painting without damaging the decals. If someone buys it, best leave it alone.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I watched this canteen this weekend when it was online for the last minute. I think it fetched a price of roundabout 25€ + postage.
