14c Ambulance

Post by kerbside »

In Nicks variation listings he shows these as Cream or White, but I have three very different colour models.

even perhaps five or more shades. Anyway I agree with George, we should distinguish at least three colours: white, off white, cream.

Where does it end though? Yes white and cream are distinctly different colours but shades of each are they really note-worthy? There are so many different shades of so many RW's but aren't they often due to what part of the painting run they were in or how much sunlight they have been subjected to or even how much play wear? (I like to think this way because it means less for me to collect!!!)

I was not referring to shades but to three different colours, Cream - Off White - and White.

While there are indeed clearly 3 different colours it may make the variation table very complex if cream example exist without roof guides. Lesney´s intention was at one time to paint them white however the real deal were generally cream which explains the decision to paint most off white or light cream. These differences between off white and cream were likely regraded as one and the same colour when ordering new paint, differences between batches of the same. We see this with other models like the #15 VW. Roof guide models do seem to come in a strong cream and case could be strongest for separate codes but perhaps a foot note will cover all later common versions...........

This Lomas group shows the colors/shades from left.
True Cream,Darker or slightly Creamier Off-White,Stark White,Off-White.These or similar shades of off-whites would certainly take us all on a loop!

One cannot do much with all the monies in this world but can do much more if he strives toward contentment.

The Fantsatic 4! - the seriously cream with roof decal is the exact shade used on the 1:1 version used by London ambulance service and the only shade of cream creamy enough to be given its own code separate from off white imho........
