Corgi Toy model numbers.

Post by GHOSTHUNTER »

The basic model numbering system used by Corgi for their models allows for different coloured models on the same basic castings, on one catalogue number, so a red Mini can be introduced into the range on a certain number, another colour may be introduced a year or two later if sales of the red one are low. Now, convert that Mini into a Rally car additional to the basic Mini already in the range and this name will have to appear on the model's box, but the sales list already has a Mini, possibly two, on a certain number and will not allow another Mini (now under a new name like a Rally Mini), to be added on the same number, a new number will be assigned to the Rally Mini version. Do this several times and several numbers exist for what really is the same basic model, but appearing on the sales listing at Corgi and in catalogues, as several different Minis.

I hope I have kept the explanation clear.

Thanks Ghosthunter...so the glass for my mini may fit a few other numbers? I have bid on a few minis on ebaybut they all seem different...luggage, jewel headlights or interior colour...they are all different! I think a thesis could be written on Corgi Minis alone! Still I have to admit that it is very interesting and absorbing to "discover" all these different models for oneself.

Again, thank you for helping me this must seem very basic for someone like yourself.

Carl there is nothing basic about the Corgi Mini issues, there are quite a few variations to collect which can only make them all the more interesting. i have a few of the Monte-Carlo versions and i personaly think they are one of the best castings produced by Corgi.

I know Ghosty very well and i can assure you that he would never find any collectors models as "basic" or refer to them as such. So please do not hesitate to post on the forum and ask questions, this is a great place to be and you are very welcome!!!

Thanks Motorman, I appreciate the welcome, I have been reading the forums for a while until I joined as this seems like a very knowledge based hobby....and I have none. The Mini is indeed a black one with wicker panels as I took it apart today, I agree with you about the casting-the quality Corgi achieved back in the 60/70s is simply amazing.

All the parts (except glass) have been ordered and I have been taking pictures as I go primarily for my records but I will post an update of the completed car when she is done.

Thanks for the help, information and encouragement-without it the model would be forever a wreck!

Hello Carl001, posting pictures of your Corgi Mini restoration will be much appreciated by other forum members who may be thinking of doing similar resto's. You may want to post them in 'Tinman's Toybox Restoration' thread as that seems the most logical place for it, thanks.

It is very inspiring to look at the work some people on here do...the cosmos is conspiring against me as within a couple of weeks I have my own mazak scrapyard! Judging by the size of the collections some people have this must be happening to others?

My scrapyard (actually my spare parts box), allowed me to build this...
