Its back on ebay so whoever the winner and runner up in the auction were, both decided their £620 bids were foolish for this genuine rarity!

It may bring more than that auction price now since the auction has been made public here. I have had mine from Toy store owner Emerich Reale for years now. It was the first documented here in the U.S., and seems to be one of the only ones ever found over here. This variation is ulra-rare with maybe only 10 (??) now known to exist, much rarer than the reverse paint original 1965 13D Wreckers. Mike Stannard had this to say about the variation he chose not to record in his detailed 1985 book: "A model exists with GP wheels and without MATCHBOX SERIES on the base, this is thought to be a pre-production model".
Ours is lightly playworn from circulation with a 'chewed' tow hook, and will remain one of my most prized and favorite regular wheel variations. It is a 'must-have' rarity in my book because the wheels are well seen when displayed. Nick's unique pre-production black plastic wheeled 3 line base model was nice, but was best displayed upside down to show it's variation from stock releases. kwakers

If this price is indicitive of the current market then I will have to consider putting some of my rarer wheel variants on ebay also, including my gpw 25c (that makes 4 now Jazz) which I bought at haydock for 20 pence. :D :D
I will mark it :-) 4 GWP i know of sold.

I'm sure that there are more than ten of these.(I'm sure I've seen at least three on Ebay.)

I am sure my estimate of 10 is quite accurate. Some that have sold continue to be passed between the collector community as the collections are later sold off. I have been in contact with every Seller of one of these GPW Jaguars that I had seen, and Mike Stannard and his gang of Veteran U.K. collectors only knew of a single existing model in 1985. Maybe a count of Forum members with one in their collection? kwakers

I personaly wouldn't touch this now even if rare. You have to ask yourself the question why did the winning bidder not have it or the 2nd chance offer either. I have been around too long and seen too many phantom auctions to bother.

Fair point. The word "shill" did cross my mind and, as I've already said elsewhere, I don't this this seller is anywhere near as naive as he makes out to be.
