congrats Dick!

get anything else at the show?
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

1e Mercedes Truck

Post by kwakers »

At the Carlisle Car Show I was mainly looking at 1969 Nova parts this time around for my Sons' project car, but did manage to get 6 Lesney pieces out of only 3 dealers I had time to stop at Brad.
1 The odd 1E Mercedes Truck mentioned above for only $3.
2. A $20 #21 Cement Truck with no axle braces, but with it's early steel barrel pin end 'crimped' as YellowFoden introduced to us on the Forum. (I had bought my first non-axle braced version only a couple of months ago from Chris ModelAFord on E Bay, which has the riveted end on the early steel barrel pin.)
3. An early Lesney Connestoga Wagon for $3 with no canopy or horses.
4. A Minty 6A Dumper with railroad detailed 'Load of gravel' for $6.
5. A $20 common round pin variation near mint 73A RAF Fuel Truck that is just a very tough Lesney model to find anywhere. This one may end up being an upgrade for the only version I have had of this Tanker for decades now.
I didn't have time to pick my usual Lesney Toy people this year, but the hit of my finds was a later fake wood upright Lesney counter display with 81 plastic divided spots in it. This is the one with twin sliding rear doors for storage of 'Lesney store stock' in it. The Display had been re-labeled on it's front for some racing cars an owner had in it, but the Lesney labels are still on it's sides as well as the one stating it is the 'Property of the Lesney Products Corp.' in Moonachie, New Jersey on the rear of it. They failed to list their complete business address, so I may not be able to return it to them for a few years.......LOL :D :D :D

Dick,
Thanks for pointing out this thread, I don't know how I missed it. A quick look through my limited number of these found one mixed cross hatch without guides or plate and one mixed cross hatch with guides and plate. Guess as your list is getting shorter, mine is getting longer!

You and I now have to find the one without rear fender brace that Jason pictured also. The mixed crosshatch bases are not 'rare', but the 2 mixtures either with guides and without license plate, or without base guidelines and with plate should prove to be a little bit more difficult tow guide changeover models to find. Add 2 nice variations to your collection Chris, but 3 more variations to our 'Want List' LOL We are going backwards to make our want list 'Phone Books' larger Antonin........What FUN!!! kwakers :D

I'll post pics when it arrives, but does this baseplate look 'Pipe Truck White' to you? I think that the silver baseplates normally wear to black, and this seems rather uniform. Fingers crossed.....

Hi Ewan,
Even if ts not a white base it is the unlisted type with the cross hatch facing the other way on the middle section.
Do hope it is white though, fingers crossed.

Arrived today - silver base! As Jason noticed it does have the reversed cross hatching so if anyone wants a swap please PM me as it's a bit too modern for my collection :D
More photos will be posted upon my return from 'holiday' if needed.

That's a shame Ewan, photos can be funny things (blues/greens, spw/gpw, etc etc). Still a nice variation.
