petethesweet1 wrote:Hi I buy quite a few things from America I usually find the postage very good but when it gets above $20 I start to think. There is a rumour about that ebay are thinking about charging the buyer a premium of 10% which will start to make things dear. Most auction houses now are 25% & some are 30%. Pete

Ebay is fast becoming a scary monster and that same monster which they created would one day devour them!
The GSP is a rip-off with nepotism at its highest and clearly fraudulent.I had a package valued at $47 shipped via GSP @ $34.00 and still hadn't received it.Usps normally takes max 12days and at $13.50 cost.I told this seller that i was not prepared to pay the $34 and stated that he shoud decline this option via Ebay but he insisted on using the GSP but to his detriment as i only paid him the $13.50 shipping costs.

The thing about Ebay wanting to charge a 10% buyers commission is simply greed but they will ultimately win cos intended buyers will continue supporting them irrespective. The lay man or entity would not challenge them. The agitation & fuss will become short-lived similar to our tax-hikes,utilities hikes, fuel hikes, food price hikes, interest rate hikes, etc.
Ebay is the wolf in sheeps' clothing!

I can't see why not , as a buyer I can have my items purchased posted where ever I like . I can aslo choose to pay for insurance with Bongo if I like , and best of all I can consolidate and have single items sent there over a period of time and then mailed out together when I choose.

I hear what u say James but your concern should be if ever a dispute arises.Remember that Bongo now becomes the 3rd-Party outside Ebay & Paypal.
Hypothetically, lets say u won and paid $300 for a #8 Sf Red Mustang and had the seller divert this package to Bongo.Bongo receives it and then re-posts to u wherever u live.U open this package and the car is not there OR the car is the common Orange version OR the car is damaged OR the car is a fake OR what if in its entirety that Bongo states that they never did receive this package. What recourse do u now have? just curious....

Hi Numi ,

Bongo opens all parcels and takes a photo which it then sends to me to check its contents . Once I check the contents they repack it and post it through . I have about 5 registered address's with ebay and paypal and i can pick and choose destinations at checkout . For example , I lived in Vietnam for a time and not many would post there , so I used Bongo to send it there , and the same for China . Getting back to your concerns , it's 9 parts judgement , 1 part trust . I choose who I buy off very carefully and for the most part , only really use this method for common superfasts that are hard to come by in Australia , especially where I live in the boondocks now . I don't think it really matters but if there was a problem like you suggested , being sent this way and being cheated is part of the gamble we take when buying online .

Hi Pete and all, I saw a model I wanted on ebay from USA, with the postage at $44-50. So I emailed the seller saying I would bid on it but did not agree to the postal charges, he replied if I bought it now he would reduce the postal charges to just $12,00. I was prepared to pay a considerable amount of money for this model so all up it only cost me $27.00. I think that some sellers up the postage and if a buyer does not query it that's goes in the sellers pocket. Mind you this is not always the case I was just lucky I guess. :o

I see many changes are afoot on ebayuk, including managed returns, click/collect from Argos etc and now the following: (which I will be opting out of asap)

"For items that are located in the UK and that are purchased through the Global Shipping Programme, you will simply post the item to a shipping centre in the UK, where a third party global technology and shipping provider will oversee the processing, customs clearance, and international postage of the item to the buyer.

• Buyers will pre-pay all applicable postage and import charges during checkout and will benefit from international tracking of the item from the shipping centre to delivery.

• You can choose to opt out of the programme at either a listing, country or account level.

• The Global Shipping Programme will be subject to additional terms and conditions. You can find more detail in the User Agreement and read the seller terms in full here".
