I don't know where we stand regarding copyright and maybe it would be infringed if we reproduced the articles word for word. However, I could have written more and perhaps if I added to the articles with possibly more photos and a little more explanation in places, it would work.

I am keen to share this sort of information as widely as possible.

Hello matchboxuk,

GHOSTHUNTER here. Like several members of this and other model based forums, I have been following your "Matchbox" articles in the various model media for a number of years and many have considered you to be the 'De facto' Matchbox person, (no disrespect Nick and others here), and to have you on-board is simply wonderful. If you say a bright pink regular wheel Morris Minor exists, then it does and every one wants one.

To have access to your knowledge and experience in whatever form is good news for us and if any of your older Matchbox related material could be placed here on the forum is even better news, however, a concern over copyrighted material will be a constant issue for you creating modified versions of old articles and stories and for us members who will no doubt save copies on our computers of your images.

In another picture related thread elsewhere on the forum, the question of who owns copyright on pictures of models when connected to E-bay type sites was asked, and while I am not an expert in legal matters on this subject, it has always been the understanding between photographers, that whoever takes the pictures with his/her own camera, is the copyright owner.

If a magazine editor supplies the camera for someone to use for the pictures, then that editor or the magazine he works for will own the copyright.

Two options for someone such as yourself in putting already published material onto this forum are A, get permission from the editor/magazine that last published the article, explaining your intention to update the article and publish it to a new platform/media, I.E. this forum and B, take new pictures of all the models featured in the old article and publish here on the forum with your detail notes etc.

Now, the first option is the easier and in respect of who you are, I don't see a problem with getting permission, the second option is more controllable, but will take an awful long time to create newer versions of your old articles and taking a load of new pictures.

You could just put your stuff here and be dammed about it and we will all sign a virtual 'Gentleman's agreement', that's how a lot of collectors treat other collectors material and we all 'borrow' other peoples content.

Wow, did I really just write all that, phew!

Best regards,
GHOSTHUNTER.

MatchboxFreak wrote:For me, part of what makes collecting Matchboxes interesting is to see how the toys evolved over time. I think it would be interesting to develop a timeline that shows the development of Lesney toys from the start of the Regular Wheel era until the end of manufacturing in England.

The time line would start with basic information like:
When were the first models released released
When did MW GPW SPW BPW & Superfast begin and end
When did axel crimping end
When was glazing introduced, when was the last coupe without glazing released
When did each box series begin and end
When where blister packs introduced
When did Lesney production in England end

I've seen some of these dates before but I haven't found anywhere this sort of info is compiled into one place.
Does anyone know about a book or online resource that has organized a Lesney timeline?

Thanks
Kurt
I am like a lot of you guys, I love Matchbox history and collecting Matchbox paper is one of my favorites. The site that I have been working on will help a little bit with Matchbox timelines and history. I work on it as time allows, and have a lot more to add, but there is a lot already on the site that could help. Recently I acquired six Fred Bronner scrap books. They are a treasure trove if information. I am waiting on 140+ original photos from the early 1970's that I will also be adding to the site. There is lot of the original files from Peter Webb at the Lesney home office on the site. You will also find almost all of the pocket catalogs, dealer catalogs, and brochures that dates from the mid-1950's to around 1970. If you visit the site, make sure you click on the slide show in the top right section of the galleries. This should make the pages large enough to be read without a lot of trouble.
