Kev have you ever considered starting a "VIntage Sony Gadgets Forum" for any like minded geeks......sorry i mean collectors out there?

OH YES! there's a lot of us gadget freaks out there and I looked on one HI-FI collectors forum and one guy had put together a sort of museum of his collection and put a picture of each piece of equipment he has on the forum and I looked at each one and had an example myself, everything he had I also had, plus lots more!! I was only viewing as a guest so he was not aware somebody out there had all the same stuff as himself and just like model forums, they get exited when someone finds a rare American specification three speed Betamax recorder!!

I've been at my real home for the past week, with both my laptops and both have crashed, again while trying to get on-line. Neither laptop will connect to my home network anymore and in trying to do so, they fail and display the famous Microsoft 'Blue Screen' of death!!

This is both puzzling and very frustrating at the same time, because I have not changed anything or added anything to the system and I usually unplug the network adaptor from the mains to clear the built-up cache memory of the unit, acting like a reset button.

So, my frustration continues. Back at my Fathers house late Saterday evening, I tried my laptop No.2, the Dell reconditioned unit and was able to check out what has been happening on the forum with no problems at all, time to log-off and switch the laptop off and it decided to install some updates, so I did not switch it off but just put it down on the floor to let it do it's thing, then it would default to a state of 'Switch-off'.

Sunday dinnertime and time to pop onto the forum again...no it's not, the Dell now has to configure those updates and will take a few moments. OK, I'll switch on my VAIO, laptop No. 1, and all I get from that is...ACTIVATE WINDOWS NOW...(apparently the version on that laptop is now NOT genuine!!!). OK, I'll have to spend some time hacking my own computer to get round the problem, this will take some time remembering what I need to do, the actual 'Hack' will only be a few seconds.

I'll go back to the Dell, it should have finished configuring those updates and fully installed them. No it has not, it decides it cannot configure and has had to re-configure the settings back to how it was and decides to shut-down. During re-booting, I decided to hit the F8 KEY to put the computer into 'SAFE MODE', allowing me to un-check the Auto download setting, however, this did not work as it still went ahead and tried to configure those blasted updates...Damm and Blast!, this is now really annoying me, I threw the bloody machine onto the floor and left it...

Back to the VAIO, managed to hack my way around the problem of activating Windows without a product key, but this first step of the 'Hack' will only last for Thirty Days, then I will have to do it again, never mind. So, the VAIO is now up and running thinking it has genuine Windows installed and I can more or less use the bloody thing for net surfing etc. I still can not actually get to the forum without a lot of arsing around, I have no idea what has gone wrong, because my desktop shortcut to 'Planet Diecast' still works...!

Back to the Dell because lying on the floor was not good, it was in the way and waiting to be trodden-on! pick it up and the screen is now broken away from the base and keyboard assembly, good I thought, a step nearer the rubbish bin and out of my life! it was however displaying the desktop so I thought it was now a good time to get into the update settings and change them from 'AUTO' to 'NEVER CHECK' for updates, restart the damm thing and see how it goes.

Right I'm back with a laptop barely working...the Dell has crashed again with the Blue Screen of death and a screen ready to come away from the computer (it has been thrown on the floor again really hard this time), so I expect it will die when it's swithched off later.

The VAIO is working fine but I can not access the Vintage British Diecast Forum, no matter what I try, it only loads up the home page, if I then click on a link (to the forum), it just re-shows the home page.

With my continuing laptop problems it looks as if I am being forced away from the forum for a while, so Guys, thanks for having me, I'll look in when I can find another laptop that works for more than an hour and gets me into the forum...

If you have a local CSS pop them both in there and go back two days later .You may have a bit of a bill but they have good staff.Mine going in Monday for a full rebuild......

Right, I am back, on a different laptop, my HP, which is a good unit for typing but of limited storage capacity and arse achingly slow to respond to most of my requests, it also has a tendancy to freeze at regular intervals. It has not been used for a good six or seven Months and have only just got it up and running, but have switched-off the 'AUTO UPDATE' feature or else it will take ages to download about a Hundred so-called important Windows updates...Yeah Right!

Thanks Ian for your suggestion, I plan to go into my new local CSS on Monday with two Laptops and ask him to help me smash them into little pieces ready to post back to Microsoft...

I have been thinking about why my usual No.1 laptop, the VAIO, won't access this site any more and won't progress further past the home page, I may try emptying the 'Cache Memeory' or it could be a problem with 'Cookies', I don't know if the 'phpBB' platform uses them, if it does that may be the problem, it is my most visited site on the internet (apart from those other sites with interesting pictures of certain Ladies)...

The laptop I am now using is virtually empty of interesting pictures for the forum, so I may appear to be commenting or posting a little less for a while, just see how I get on.
