Hi Dan,

I'd keep both, but then I am nerdy about this sort of thing.

Very interesting though, as not something I've noticed before. I think you're right in that the base appears to be able to be fitted either way.

Cheers,

Because Nick does not record the fact that the base can be reversed on this one, I would say it is possibly a new discovery Brad. Others with expert Superfast knowledge will educate us both I am sure about it, but I am very impressed by your 'discovery'. It seems that the base had to have been intentionally designed to be installed either way, so I can't imagine this has gone uncodded this long. Bob Brennen has early versions with "Pat. App" on the rear of the base, and then "Superfast" on the rear of the base as yours, so it seems we can at least tell which way the base was installed normally on this one (as in Nick's Guide). Your new replacement model seems to be the odd one, cogratulations!
It seems that Nick's variation Guide has missed the base variation with "Pat. App" on it? Bob Brennen had this one both with and without the #26 inside it's gas tank, giving his first two variations. Nick is missing his Code one on this one as of this morning, perhaps that was deleted by accident? kwakers

This was already listed in Charlie Mack's catalogue, at least in the 1990 edition which I have.

Therefore I have also had this in my variation list from the start, and it has been shown on my website for a very long time already. The picture on my website is from 2002, meaning it was taken with my first digital camera, which means the quality is not very good and hence the base lettering is not very easy to read.
