German seller issue!!!!!

Post by motorman »

I am having major issues with German sellers on e bay not wanting to sell to bidders from abroad?

I am not sure what is causing them such an issue but i have now lost 3 winning bids because of their reluctance to ship outwith Germany????

What is going on????

Hi Alex, I share the same issue as yours. Either they dont want to ship or they dont have PayPal. However sometimes if you ask a seller politely it can appear that said seller actually does have PayPal and is willing to ship. I always send them a message in advance (usually few hours after auction was started).

Luckily I have friends in Germany, but I cannot rely on all the time. I had got the german window boxed Rover 3500 that way - via a pal there.

I would strongly suggest adding a German translation to your message. (If you don't speak German, then use e.g. Google Translate.) Even if the German isn't perfect (and it won't be if you use Google), it shows willing and can only help to generate goodwill.

Many German sellers dont like paypal´s refund policy & dont speak english but do have very efficient netbank accounts that allow free payments within euro currency zone without risks or costs of PP. Get a German friend to help with bids & buying I suggest!

I lived in Germany for 5 years, I have a german wife and my kids go to a german school here in copenhagen. Alex germans are not interessted in selling abroad. We can get pissed off about it, but in the end they dont trust paypal and ebay. They are very serious about personal data and Nazis and Stasi did not help with this. When google makes a street view in germany people write to google to get them to blur there house, why? no idea :-)

But I think with all this personal data flying around it is healthy to be cautious, and ebay/Paypal do screw us!! So as Mick said I offen ask members here fron Germany to help out and the have all been very helpfull, the shipping cost will be a bit more but if it is a rare one its ok ! I also have a frence and a english conection :-)

This has thrown-up an interesting problem, not just for "Motorman" but I expect for other forum members and I am sure it is not just the Germans who are exhibiting this caution.

Could members get together and create a forum 'Pen-Friend' section, placed in the Lounge or perhaps the EBay section, who have the means to help out such situations as Alex has just experienced.

Make it sticky and any members willing to put their name down as a possible 'Purchase Helper' in their Country could help smooth over such situations. All correspondence will be by the 'Private Message' system we all use anyway, so no personal details exposed on the forum.

What do other members think of this, can it be made to work?

I think it's a great idea........as to wether it can be made to work, i guess it should work well, that is until something goes wrong and an unfortunate disagreement occurs between two forum members so i would also be cautious about this idea as well.
