Is this 14c roof cross OK?

Post by Idris »

Someone has just put a 14c with roof cross on Ebay as a BiN.
I don't think the roof cross looks genuine. What do other members think?

Out of 12 pictures, 9 of them show the roof...drawing attention to something suspicous. If this is being sold as a genuine model with no knowledge of any scarceness (does that word exist!!!), why show the roof so much and not general three-quarter views and the baesplate?

This roof cross is not symmetrical and doesnt look satin like a normal Lesney solvent fixed decal. I only have 1 14a with roof cross to compare it to and they dont look the same although the Lesney decal isnt perfectly symmetrical either - I wouldnt buy this for any more than the value of a spw + roof guides without the cross - it looks like the cross has been hand cut out from a roll of red sticky tape to me when viewing the side angles to the roof

I've the same view as sms88. The cross looks possibly handmade to me.

Thank you everyone. That all confirms what I thought. (I spotted this just as I was leaving work, but wanted to flag it up asap in order to prevent anyone from getting ripped off).

Also it should have black wheels and the cross outline has paint wear but not to the decal.

Mick is exactly right on the 'satin' look of the early solvent decals this should have used with their rough cross edges. Every cross on the 14 A and 14Bs have very grainy edges and corners, not at all looking 'perfect' like this one. This cross looks too damn large to me, and I also think it is made of cheap tape, not even a model kit decal. Thanks for exposing this one Hugh, let all beware......kwakers
