I recently saw a "Toy Hunter" episode where he came across a collectors case of old Redline Hot Wheels (no Matchboxes unfortunately). The Toy Hunter bloke wasn't up to speed on their values and got another specialist in, who correctly identified the rarity in the batch and provided a realistic value for it.

Hi Reg,

No, I think this one was mentioned on befora - I saw a different one, which didn't sell for anything like as much - it wasn't just Lesney stuff, there was a mix with some Corgi and Dinky stuff in the one I saw.

Watching this one makes me wonder what was hidden away in the carry case that they were all excited about...nothing stood out from what I could see that was particularly rare.

To be fair to the "experts" on the show, general antiques experts don't really have any idea about toys in my long experience. I've found a few bargains in general antiques fairs and the like because the dealers who don't specialise in toys don't know what they're doing. At least as often, they will over-value toys they are trying to sell. Either way, you can bet they never paid much in the first place!

Cheers,
Gavin

Hi all, I did see that show .. (on NZ TV) , you will notice the lady said her mum worked for Lesney early 60's. That carry case I rekon was full of 1 off's and prototypes. as notice no one saw what was on the 2nd layer apart from people that went to that auction. So that $1100 pounds might have been dirt cheap.
