Antiques Roadshow Moko/Lesney/Matchbox?

I'm a great fan of the Antiques Roadshow (we have 3 episodes a week in NZ). In all the years of viewing I can never recall seeing an episode that features die cast Moko/Lesney or Matchbox models.
Dinky & Corgi have been on the show a few times plus numerous early tinplate.

Does anyone know if our favourite models have been on the show? Tried a Google search with no results.

We did have a few screenings of a similar show, hosted by Alan Titmarsh that featured items from 40's, 50's & 60's "Twentieth Century Antiques" but it only ran for a few episodes here. Thought that might have shown a few.

Suppose it's only the high value or very interesting that get televised - You UK collectors will have to get out those mint rarities and get on screen

I have yet to see any die-cast on our version of antiques roadshow. There is a show here (in limited episodes) called Toy Hunter. I have seen him move car cases but never seen him look in one! Mostly he goes after action figures, and some vintage playset things. He may be on to something though as a $10 Weebles house I bought a couple weeks ago just brought me $150+ when I sold it on Ebay.

I hope not!! The last time anything appeared on Antique Road Show or similar (must have been in the eighties if my Memory serves me well) every Tom, Dick and Harry thought the playworn Dinkys and Matchbox they had were all worth a fortune. I was buying for my collection at this time and was often called a cheat because I valued play-worn Dinky Toys at a fiver a piece. The answer I got was "I've seen them on the telly, they are worth much more!"

Certainly "Muffin the Mule" has been on one of the UK sourced Antique collectors program and many '1-75 series' models as part of a collection have been featured across several collector based UK sourced programmes.

In view of the fact that a member here created a section called "The Ipcress File" and other members have added to it with toys to be seen on TV and FILMS, maybe we should make a proper section in the Lounge for our spottings of toys and models in such programs, maybe something like...'TOYS ON TV'...does that sound OK!

Then a site admin member can move those other postings into the new section so they are all together, yes!

I remember we had a show here called Spot On. It was a children's magazine show aimed at teenagers. It was on at 5.30 on Sundays on TV one and hosted by Stu Denison.
He also did Give Us A Go and his signature was Nice One Stu with his thumb up.
It was filmed in the Dunedin TV studio's and around 1979 they had a Matchbox collector on. Thinking about it now I would think it was Ken Glass.

Hi Rodger,

I am sure that I have seen a collection of early 1-75s appraised on the British Antiques Roadshow - within the last 10 years. I remember the condition was good and they were all in type B boxes. The model that stood out was a bright yellow 11a ERF, the remaining visible models were all common colourways and the valuation was modest.

There was also a collection on Dickinson's Real Deal a couple of years back that ended up in Auction. I remember thinking I'd have bid more than the price they made in the end!

Quite a few Diecast models have appeared on "Flog It" over the years.

The problem with programs like these is that most of these diecast models are then sold through General sales in Auction rooms rather than in a Specialist sale Auction. The end result being that the sellers dont realise as much for their respective lots. That said it's not so bad if you are a buyer, and i have to admit to trawling through the general sales lots in the local sales rooms in Glasgow, and have over the years picked up quite a few models at very good prices even after taking the commission into account.

Kevin and Stewart of MICA were at the BBC antique Roadshow long time ago (early 90ties)
The BBC visited the Chester Toymuseum april 23 1994
See editorial in MICA Volume 10, no.1 (1994) page 3 and page 4 for review and photo.

The Matchbox R&D department also made Code-4 models for the BBC Antique Road show.
24 of the Morris and 24 of the Ford Model TT were made of which 6 each has a letter with (I have the Ford TT with letter) that these were given away at the show.
18 of each were given away to those closely involved with the project.
The Morris was made for a show aroud christmas 1991 and the Ford TT for a show aroud christmas 1992
