#14 d Iso Grifo

Hi all,

I saw an Iso Grifo in the late Superfast-Colour light blue, but with regular wheel baseplate on German Ebay:

Nick Jones guide says the Iso was recoloured to light blue in 1971. The fact that it was already converted to Superfast wheels in 1969 let me think this example is a trashy baseswap, although the rivet looks fine to me.

As you can see it was sold for round about 13£. Your opinions?

The rivet does look good, but is also a little strange in as much as it is not fully flared, which makes me think it might not be 100% above board. I would also suggest that the general state of the baseplate and wheels does not match the amount of wear on the body.
I would therefore plump for fake, but would say that it is a well done one.

I'd say Idris is 100% right and all I'd add is that the plastic windscreen unit hasn't been refitted correctly. It's sitting wrong.

Look at the axles. They hang out way too far. There is something hinky about this. Run away.

thank you for your comments. I agree with Steve and Hans.

The extra long axles remember me on a #61 a Ferret Scout Car I bought last year. Someone (not Lesney!! ) put an axle from a #39 c Ford Tractor on the rear of it.
Looks very funny!

Bodys and baseplates like these can be picked up in beater boxes for pennies so nobody would waste time swapping axles when its easier to get another baseplate & its very easy to fit glazing properly,harder not to on an Iso! The ´´defect´´ & ´´estate sale find ´´in the auction title suggests that it is very likely the auction buyer will discover a very well done rivit swap however the glazing not properly fitted to underside of roof with overlong axles combined with a perfect rivit would all be consistent with a factory colour trial car so I would have gambled the £13 plus shipping on this that the winner shelled out but not much more.
