17d Hoveringham Ashtray

Post by Ewan »

Too much time on my hands the other day and I was looking at some Hoveringham related stuff online - there are sections dedicated to the firm on both FB and Flickr. Anyway - I came across some photos of these - ashtrays fitted with a 17d, rather like the Yesteryear ashtrays. Going by the conversation accompanying the FB photo below, the firm handed them out to employees. Does anyone know if Lesney was involved other than supplying the models or was this Hoveringham's own doing? I wonder if the board of directors got a King Size Foden on their ashtrays????

Very interesting item Ewan, If I remember correctly, the ceramic ashtrays were made by 'WADE' and supplied to Lesney and I wonder if they would also supply some to 'Hoveringham' for the same purpose, somehow I don't think so, they would not want to supply such a small quantity just for a few board members or long serving employees.

So they may have been produced by an outsider who had access to the Lesney 'Giftware' range by means of wholesale buying, at reduced prices and then removed the 'Yesteryears'. It may have been a worker at Hoveringham who knew somebody who sold the 'Giftware' range or just a 'one-off' for private satisfaction, we may never know, until one can hold it and study the fixing points and screws etc.

Ghosty.

It would be interesting to see how this model was fixed to the ashtray.
