Y-4 1909 Opel Coupe

Post by nearlymint »

Recently added some new models to my collection.
First one is the one with the maroon plastics which Bob showed a while back, one I have always wanted. Also has the early open front web, very happy as its in superb condition.

Next one is this playworn one with the lug missing for the roof, I like these odd ones and I do not have many yesteryears like this.

Finally this one in green, I think this is probably a friday special. The axle ends are not very good but the rivets look fine to me for the brass parts, still a nice one for display and again I do like these unusual ones.

Holy crap mate, I don't know how you do it !!! That Opel with maroon seats and grille is hard enough to find but with the open front web as well - phew !! I only know of around half a dozen of us who have one and wasn't known until a few years ago as a variant. Are you sure about the green one as brass rivet looks fine and green seems to be the Lesney green of the low loaders and Kingsize trucks. Any chance of a colour comparison shot with one of your green truck cabs etc.

Tried to find a colour that matched and the green on the kings is very close, also compared to the simplex but its different as well.
The only other one that looked close was a prepro Y7 rolls royce on your website in green/yellow .

Thanks to you Mick I have now found the colour, I knew i had seen it before. On my colour trial grit spreader, I looked at loads last night and must have been staring straight at it.
Have you ever heard of , or seen this model in this colour?

This was one was auctioned by Grajam Hamilton (Rockerton Toys) in may 2012.

The one Graham had looked to be in the color of the Y9-2 Simplex model.

There is currently an interesting treath about a more metallic green Opel on the MOYBOYZ forum.

Very interesting model.

Thankyou Marcel, thats where I had seen it. I remember thinking the axle ends looked a bit rough on that one as well.

Thanks for checking Mick, I think I will put it in with the rest for the moment. ;)
This particular model was in a job lot of about 20 from the enfield area, many are standard models with lots of different wheel variations. One daimler has wheels from the regular wheel no4 triumph motorbike, not to sure what to do with these now. Maybe they worked there or took home odd ones as many have small bits broken and then fitted wheels later on.
One Y6 cadillac did have a nice white roof which is now on my prepro :D
all the best

Jason the Y8 Sunbeam and the Y10 Mercedes are both found/ known with the same wheels off the Triumph so check carefully. White Caddy roof is a nice find though. I have a Caddy with all white plastics and was tempted to put on the white tyres from another one to make one stunning model but wouldn't be right.

Hi Mick ,
I will start another thread with the odd wheel models, I think they are all made up but I will probably be keeping them in the collection somewhere. :)
