Hi all,
I seem to see more "deals" available on diecasts from the UK as opposed to the US, but the shipping cost to the U.S. pretty much kills the deal for me every time. Does anyone have a work-around for this? Short of me moving to Chester or something, I mean.

Shipping from the UK to the US
Re: Shipping from the UK to the US
I dunno. Postage seems to vary wildly from seller to seller. I almost always buy from sellers who quote reasonable postage. I have seen rates vary by over 40 dollars for the same items. There are a lot of great sellers with good postage rates. I have found that ebay has a terrible postage calculator though. Great sellers will make a quote, and send you a rebate if the postage cost is less. On the other hand, if they have quoted too low, I offer to send them the difference as well. Makes for good relations with sellers, and yo never know if they are going to have the item you have bee hunting for up for sale next week!

Thanks, Cam. Hard to believe the shipping can vary so much. I've posted elsewhere here that that is one of my biggest pet peeves, sellers who try to profit from shipping. And yes, I am willing to adjust things too, to make sure everybody makes a profit and to build good relationships.

Re: Shipping from the UK to the US
In the past year the postage rate has gone hay wire in the UK.....The Post office website is so bloody confusing that people will check the rate there and cancel selling abroad straight off...It just needs a little looking into..Most single Matchbox size items will post anywhere around the world for £3.I just sent one to Bulgaria yesterday..The seller has to explain that they are sending straight small packet airmail and that there will be no insurance at all...Once you get into signed for and insured the rate gos up consideribley and the buyer just has to take the hit..I have been lucky so far as most of what I sell gos very cheap and I can take a hit or two a year but the larger and more expensive items have to carry the extra cost which in the past has put off buyers especiaely from Italy....However I have found that buyers who will bid big on items want that item and will gladly fork out the extra postage.....I would think sellers are just going on the post office web site and excepting the first price quoted..They really have to dig a little deeper to find a more reasonable cost......Mind you having writen this I must say its Saturday night and I am a little pissed.....
Heres the man with the bargains.Always open to offers from this sites members..http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/misterpop/m.h ... m=&_ipg=25

With a bit of luck(fingers crossed) once the Royal Mail gets sold off and they start living in the real world and realise that the German Post Office will be out to take as much trade from them as possible via there DHL arm something might change to the better but no doubt it will be just a pipe dream.
Royal Mail can start saving money by not starting there staff at silly o clock in the first place after all who needs bill dropping through the letterbox so early in the morning, the Germans are still delivering mail in the afternoon up to 5-0 clock.

Royal Mail has a prohibited list of items and a restricted list of items , not all batteries are the same and rm treat them differently.mcnair55 wrote:All my batteries come via Royal Mail,is this new that they are no longer allowed.?MOKOSEX wrote:Here is the link to royalmail price list, but remember airmail small packet maximum length is 60 cms, with the height, breath, width added up not excedeing 90cm

Another thing is to confirm the postage on the package when it arrives. If you paid 25 dollars postage and the package says it was only 5 dollars, the confront the seller with the rip off and demand some money back. If they refuse, leave a negative feedback and launch a complaint with ebay.

Can you complain after you've left feedback? I had the idea that by leaving feedback you were no longer able to raise any kind of dispute.Cam wrote:Another thing is to confirm the postage on the package when it arrives.
