I had a Thames 15cwt van (400e) or 70a Estate car but the panel van version, It was an ex Brooke Bond tea van and it had the same tea leaf motif and Brooke Bond lettering as the A40 and Trojan tea vans.
I apologise I was caught out again by the fact that the top thread is the one with the latest entry
The Austin Van is in fact DY14
The heading is incorrect and this is the only part of a posting that administrators can't change or correct
Nick
That Brooke Bond van would have been cute. - Like all those people who see my toys and say" I had one of those but I threw it / gave it away" you must regret not keeping the van.
Hi Wolfie.
It was no toy, It was a real Ford Thames panel van, in red with a tea leaf motif on the front doors and Brooke Bond Tea painted on the sides.
I believe Brooke Bond converted the van in house, It was divided into two separate and equal compartments by a wooden wall built halfway down the vans length, Access to the forward compartment was via a narrow side door which had been cut into the side and using the metal they cut out they fitted a wooden frame and hinges to the back to make the door, The door was locked by a household yale lock like you would find on your front door.
It was powered by a 1500 cc diesel engine which gave it a top speed of about 45 mph, I soon replaced it with a buzzy little Fiat twin cam.
I am pretty sure it is possible to edit the content in your posting and the title of your posting, I have done this previously and put some details in the image below.
