Yes it was a certain scent Tim and not one I have come across here except in the emergency stairs in car parks. Most here just piss in the street when drunk so it goes away !!!

I think all the kids of the day knew the "tap dialling" technique. We weren't all rogues though  (I swear my nose just got bigger)

These phone booths have become quite collectable here in the U.S., and apparently in England also. When the U.S. History channel T.V. Show 'Pickers' went to England recently they visited a man who showed 20 or 30 of them in his shop, and he would sell his fully restored examples with period phone books and inside papers for over 5000 pounds each. The 'Pickers' were able to buy one for 1800 pounds unrestored to ship back here.
When a local attraction in Lake George N.Y. held a liquidation auction 10 years ago, their single British phone booth only brought 2000 dollars, but still seemed a hefty sum to most auction attendees. I thought it was cheap, but it was not suitable for our house. I have a Yank wood one for inside use. Later in that auction 'Gaslight Village's' full size diesel double decker Bus at 14 feet high brought a cheap 5 thousand U.S., while a 3/4 size copy of it that was only 11 foot high brought a hefty 8000 U.S. The smaller version was powered by an older straight 6 cylinder U.S. gas motor, but was a quality shop built copy of it's bigger all original brother.
Oh, on your phone booth Mike, they are all done in plastic now in our hobby shops, but Joe's name might turn out to be correct on your examples. They are really nice looking to us foreigners in that scale Mike, but watch your British visitors closely for their conduct around yours when you invite them over. Tell your wife to stay in the next room Please, and tell the visitors in advance where your bathroom is in the house.....LOL :D ;) kwakers

Hi Mike, While I have no personal knowledge of these little phone booth, I did do a search for information on them, but other than finding a few that had sold through ebay in the USA and UK, I wasn't able to come up with anything. I think as was mentioned, they could have possibly been made for model railway layouts, in the late 50s or early 60s. It would appear that they were widely distributed, although who they were made by, is still a mystery.

Mike, please check and see if the casting is lead instead of zymack. In my humble opinion, the phone booths were cast by Selley & Sons.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I would suggest Phone booths made from lead would be noteably heavier, just a thought

Yes, Zamak is an alloy and it's lighter than lead and lead is also softer and has a different feel in the hand.
