69 sf Turbo Fury

Post by johnboy »

I just wondered if there were any thoughts on this one. It's a standard casting, Rolamatics base but unfoiled wheels and no label or any signs of one. It was only 99p - thanks

JB,

I would suggest that this Turbo Fury did not start it's life looking like that.

The wheels in my view do not have the sharp edges to the spoke/space that you would expect to see from a genuine black hub. You should look very closely using a loupe to see if there is any remaining foiling which would confirm my thoughts. (Can we get some macro shots of the wheel hubs?)

As for the label, I am sure that any label could be removed and the piantwork underneath cleaned without leaving a mark in you really set your mind to it.

I think this has been deliberately made to look the way it does and never left the factory like that.

Just my thoughts.......i would love to be proved wrong. :D

Thanks Motorman, I did check with a loupe beforehand and couldn't see any traces of foil. Here's some more shots of the wheels, they're the best my camera will do I'm afraid but maybe good enough to see what's going on. Thanks

JB, Thanks for the close up images,

I am still of the opinion that these have been foiled in the past, the edges of the spaces/spokes are not as sharp edged as i would expect to see if the car had missed the foiling process.

I dont have any black hubbed 5 spoke variants however i do have a black hubbed SF#45 BMW 3.0 CSL with 5 arch wheels and you can see in the image attached, the better definition and sharpness of the edges in the arches which i would expect to see had it not been foiled. I have to admit i have never seen another example of a bluck hubbed Turbo Fury.

(I have tried to get a closer image of the wheel on my beemer but my camera phone does not have a macro setting)

I hope you can see what i am talking about.

I have not seen another example of a black hubbed Turbo Fury, it would certainly be interesting to see if anyone else has an example in their collections. I looked on Christians site and he does not have any images of black hubbed variants and Charlie Mack makes no mention of it.
