I know factually that a lot of the early U.S. East Coast collectors recognize that the 32A had two last color reds. Chipped paint reveals white bodies on some Jaguars that were repainted red at the factory during the hasty color change, giving a much lighter color red. These were a very early batch that were found and well known by Bronner's collector friends around the New York City area. I had one years ago that was stolen with many other variations. We have discussed another factory repainted variation or 2 on the Forum that were not pre-pros, sharp Mick SMS will remember which models they were.
Knowing that Jaguar was done in 1961-2 by Lesney, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the same wasn't done for an order of say 100 blue Pickford Van promotionals if no bare body castings were in stock that day. Maybe a shipment of 2 line green bodied Pickfords did not go over well with management, and were sent back that week? They were just Toys to Lesney, but Pickfords may have wanted their correct colors once again on another order. All this sounds like speculation, so just treat it as that until more facts are known. Your Van together with Antonin's green 2 line may be significant, but maybe just a pair of oddities we may never know more about. kwakers

Re: 46b Pickfords
Hi Antonin,
I hope yours and Dick's observations are correct.
Like all of us I never get rid of any models. Here's a picture of a Wolseley. The paint color underneath is the same as the normal color.
I don't believe it to be sun fade. The big question. Why would they repaint the models? The Pickfords being a Promotional I can see. The others, like your Commer or this model. Perhaps rejected for bad paint and redone at a different time? It's interesting.
Just like your 2 line green Pickfords hope springs eternal.

Re: 46b Pickfords
Hi all here's my 46B w/rear bumper casting. When I bought it there was no pic of the rear and it was a BIN for less then $10.00 with the post not mint but very nice and what a great surprise when I open the box. I just need a box for it and not sure if I need a D-type or the very pricey E-type Box ???
Thanks
Thanks

Nice one Dave. What you need is the e-box. I still say that $350.00 is to much for the box.

Re: 46b Pickfords
Nice pics. I like this casting - I have a B box code 1, an a common green D box. I'd like to find a blue one with silver wheels, or a green one that isn't black wheels - but they are always too rich for my blood

I like the repaint theory for the blue 46b. It fits in very well with what we know about Lesney's way of working.

Jeff´s model brought a lot of light to this topic. It all starts to fit together like cogwheels in the Swiss watchIdris wrote:I like the repaint theory for the blue 46b. It fits in very well with what we know about Lesney's way of working.

Yes, although I am still concerned about the lack of a playworn example.Diecast wrote:Jeff´s model brought a lot of light to this topic. It all starts to fit together like cogwheels in the Swiss watch
