Why do you collect "Matchbox"?

As Rod Serling wrote in the short story "Walking Distance",
"I had to come back and get on the merry-go-round, and eat cotton candy, and listen to a band concert. I had to stop and breathe, and close my eyes and smell, and listen."
That is what "Matchbox" does for us.

I remember growing up in the 1960s and playing with matchbox cars from about the age of 5 maybe younger. I would spend hours in the back yard (in my moms flower garden) making roads, little towns and even packing up the trailer and motorcycles to go camping. Back then the 23c, 38c, 45b and the 72b got played with the most. When I got old enough I would collect soda bottles to return so I could buy my next Matchbox. There would be time's I would go to the local toy store and spend hours just looking and trying to decide which one I would buy...boy the memories of being a kid. I've been a car guy sense then. I started collected Matchbox in the mid 1970s and stopped for about 25 years and 4 years ago started collecting again. I can sit and look at these little Gems for hours...just like being a kid

Dave, do you ever feel tempted to get these models out again and get down and dirty in your own flower garden, just for old times sake.

I watch my son playing for hours with modern hotwheels and his Hot wheels tracks and garage and it reminds me so much of when i was a boy and me and my kid brother would play with our own matchbox toys out in our back garden, wonderful memories.

I watch my son playing for hours with modern hotwheels and his Hot wheels tracks and garage and it reminds me so much of when i was a boy and me and my kid brother would play with our own matchbox toys out in our back garden, wonderful memories.

Yes often, if I could get away with it...but if my wife saw me she may put me in a straight jacket what I'd give to be a kid again

Gosh, who hasn't? And who doesn't? We just call it rearranging our collection, or some other term that makes it appear we aren't just playing in the sandbox. The only hard part for me is not acting on my impulses to see just one crash between the gem mint 55b Ford Fairlane Police Car and the 39a Ford Zodiac or some other mint vehicles.

As to my wife, she already thinks I'm crazy. So anything I do, one way or the other, just proves her point.

HI Everyone

There are beautiful stories to read and I'm born 1963.We had in the neighboring village with my father was a toy store by the name of Lutz-Hardegger and I visited early seventies almost every Saturday morning of this business for good work in the School.There was a frame with the same imprint as Startsite in Our Forum with many F and G Boxen. It was a nice Time.As I was older, I met the former salesman Mr. Gloor was already retired and he could still remember me and I said him I still collect Matchbox, it has him very happy.

I have done this many times with my son, he would come to me and say, dad can you make this, IE water splash, or some kind of jump.
we would go to the shed and get some scrap aluminium or timber and see what we could come up with, and if it didnt work we would
keep trying till it did. we made many things in this period. he is 15 now, couldn't give a s@%t about toy cars.

at least I wont do what my mother did and give away all his diecast cars and Lego,

I came home one day and it was all gone.
