All I can add is although I have been collecting for about 20yrs the knowledge and enthusiasm of the guys on here is phenomenal, I don't collect with the dedication to variations that some of you do and find it fascinating and educational to see the posts written by members encouraging me to look at what I have in more detail and also to look out for and get the more htf'nds (damn you)

I will agree with Martin that most FB toy forums are very boring especially the Matchbox ones,I only actively post on 1 that has amazing photos showings obscure vintage european & latin american diecast 1950-70 in 1/43 - I am seeing cars and learning about ranges that I previously knew next to nothing of. London buses are my main hobby and FB is an amzing source of colour 1970s never before shared photos which are being discussed by old codgers who worked for LT back in the 1970s so that is my main reason for spending time on FB.
This forum will get back on track if we can return to the original purpose of this forum, which is to support & improve the accuracy of the listings - I hope that Nick will be able to complete the half written new pages even better if he could make an hour available each week to correct pages with updates based upon discussions here. We have been in recent situations where new variations discovered in the past year but not yet in the listings get rediscovered by other members!

No. It's supposed to be "a fun forum for collectors of British diecast toys". (Look at what it says to the right of the logo at the head of the page.) Any information it generates to help Nick correct and update his catalogue pages is an added bonus.

While the listings are important, I don't - and have never - seen the forum's primary purpose as being to support them. That may have been Nick's original aim - it was before my time here - but the forum has certainly grown far beyond that. If supporting the listings in the variation guide was the only purpose then there would be no point in any of the sub forums -and certainly not in The Lounge!

The forum's real point is to provide a venue where collectors and those interested in the hobby from all over the world can meet, chat and exchange views on an equal footing. Some may have collections of ten thousand cars or more and some may 'only' have 100 or less, but we all share an enthusiasm and a joy in talking about our toys. That's why I come here anyway.

In this day and age, things come and go out of fashion very quickly. I suppose it's always been like that though. Give it 5 years and Facebook will have faded - it will still have a hardcore of fans and users, but one day something "better" will come along and the next generation will jump on board.

I'm happy just hanging here really, and Martin is dead right that the quality of posts here is not slipping.

Sometimes I can't resist showing off a couple of my pride and joys, and nice feedback is always appreciated...

As for my wee girl - straight to sleep without fuss tonight! Alex - it's good to know I'm not alone! Still love her to bits too...

I made recordings of our kids when they went noisy like that. Then I played them at high volume when they were teenagers! It gave them pause to think of what they put us through, and was damn funny at the same time. Musta worked as we don't have Grandkids yet! Lol.

With regard to the face book subject, I've come to the conclusion that the whole thing is pretty much a worthless waste of time. That said, it is a good way for my daughters to post photos of the grand kids (and themselves).

Many business face book accounts do see a boost from this type of media and the whole thing now seems to be commercial oriented. I also hated all those stupid "games" that were so popular on FB a couple years back (I nearly quit using it because of that).

My largest use of FB is to share links to my ebay auctions. It has brought me extra traffic and reinforced my commercial sentiment about it. I've looked at a few "hobby" related FB pages and couldn't leave them fast enough.

Those of you who enjoy FB and/or prefer it over a discussion forum ... do your thing. Just understand it will never have the substance, depth and scope that could ever replace a forum.

I thought this was the wear funny hats and large beard forum, no wonder there is so much talk about toy cars!
