Just looking at the picture of my baseplate again, the argument for not being able to drill a hole nice and centrally on the domed rear boss, holds true for the middle boss, which is also domed, same problem, so I don't think that is a valid reason for my comment on this. The only other reason for relocating a fixing point of this nature, is, if the model was secured only at the rear point, it would not be possible to hold the model tight, there would be too much leveridge from holding the front of the model and it would be possible to loosen it, (how do you think pliers work on tight nuts, through leveridge, not design!) the little 'chock blocks' on the metal plate would only stop the model from twisting sideways from a straight line, not from being pulled up and away from the plate.

The actual 'Giftware' models had two fixing points and this cured any of the above from happening and my baseplate has two fixing points, in the exact place as 'Giftware' models, however, my particular example as shown in my pictures, has an earlier detail specification than my earliest plated 'Giftware' model, which is dated as 1961 production, with black 'Knobbly' tyres and a flat rear boss, (the plating process being developed during 1961 and trialled on some Bugatti models first), so, is my example an early proper 'Giftware' model or a 'plating' trial model.

Asuming my model is no longer an 'Anniversary' model, when was the actual 'Anniversary' model made...maybe Bob can be coaxed again into providing some more of his excellent pictures of his example, specifically the steering wheel centre nut, (looking from the side, not from above) and the R-R grille badge, (this should be of the 'wide' design, if the badge is of the 'narrow' design, that pre-dates everything 'plated' in my collection!) and a few more general shots would be nice...sorry Bob if you've already put it away from your last photo session...

I'm sorry you're unable to register with MOYBOYZ. You're not the only one to have this problem. The Admin for the site is a member here, and the site operates on the same platform as this one. May be Nick and Mick can sort it out between them.

Back to the model. I think the centre fixing hole would have been drilled from the top, straight through the seat pin locating boss. This would negate the problem of centering a drill bit on the dome on the baseplate. Hope photos are what you need.

Bob, fantastic, just fantastic, thank's for the images, just perfect.

It has a 'narrow' grille badge, low steering wheel centre nut and the large axle-ends on the near-side, (the passengers side for our foreign readers!), making the model come from the end of the grey 'knobbly' tyre production.

Very early on in the production run with black 'knobbly' tyres, the grille badge was made square without the top and bottom representation of the names...ROLLS and ROYCE. Look at your 'Anniversary' or any grey 'knobbly' tyre grille badge and you will see what I mean, the early models have a rectangle badge with cast strips that on the real badge would say...ROLLS and ROYCE.

The steering wheel centre nut was actually made higher only one model after the grille badge change and another three models later, the rear boss on the base was modified to be flat, just ready for the proper 'Giftware' range.

Your 'Anniversary' model pre-dates the higher steering nut and flat boss modifications, putting it mid to late 1961 and the grey tyres may well match a set on one of your own grey 'knobbly' tyre, pale metallic green models.

My 'Chrome' effect plated model however, is later than yours, it is only the second model made after the grille badge change !

So, I conclude it to be a very early plating trial model, not an early ashtray model, unless someone can prove the very first 'Giftware' models had grey tyres.

I managed to get to Sandown Park as well and my friend with a stall told me you were there also, but sadly we did not meet up!

I had a good look at the stall where you probably got that 'Gold' Y-15 from and told the guy that the amount of models I would buy from him, meant I could not actually carry them, so they had to stay there, SOB, SOB,

Heaven knows where he got his stock from. Most of it was pretty trashed, and really only worth a couple of quid an item. A silver Caddy went from virtually under my hand to a fellow giftware collector and friend so no problem really Sorry I missed you Kevin, I asked your friend if you were there, and he said he hadn't seen you for a while. I was gone by just after 12.

Unfortunately, family issues dictate that I no longer really know if I am going to some of the toy fairs, so could not announce my visit on the forum here, same as happened with the Huntingdon toy fair, Sunday the 23rd just gone.
