G-10 gift set

Post by nickjones »

Ramsays guide lists one G-10 Service Station gift set that includes the 13c Trader wrecker, 25b VW Beetle and the 31b Ford Customline, It values it at £500-£600 and I should think it refers to this one that was sold by Vectis for £600

I always thought I had this set but I recently pulled the box out to find my one has the green garage pictured with the BP pumps but with the same 13c, 25b and 31b which is a very strange combination, Has anyone seen this set before?. I have searched Vectis and there are none like this in their database.

Hi Alex.
Yes the garage is green and white,
Also the endflaps are printed with "G-10 Matchbox BP Service Station"

I'm probably way out of my depth with this, but I do keep my '40 Years' book on the computer table :D

It states that the G10 was introduced in 1962, the 'Esso' station was replaced with the BP station in 1963 and the box illustration was altered to show this. The large 'Series' was dropped from the wording for 1964. Looks like your set is from 1963 and the Vectis one is from 1962?

Thanks Ewan, I guess I should have looked in the 40 year book first, I guess all of the G-10 gift sets must have been very rare, Searching through the Vectis past auctions catalogue they have only sold one of the Esso G-10's and none of the BP G-10's in the last 15 years.
