Blue Ford Wreck Truck on Ebay.fr this week

Post by davidlet »

Hello Matchbox Fans,

On sale this week on Ebay.fr is a set of MB Trucks including a Superfast Blue Ford wreck truck w/ chrome hubs (the bid is now at 2.00 euro)... As usual, I've asked for more pics of the model but the French seller doesn't seem to be very friendly. He doesn't want to sell abroad and won't use Paypal... Anyway I'll try to win the auction for a very low price (at least, I hope so!)..
See pic below.

David,

I am not sure of you are aware but there is a general principal on the forum that if you find a HTF variant on sale on e bay, that you dont post the details/link to the auction, instead you keep the listing details to yourself until the auction ends, especially if the item his been incorrectly listed or is in a job lot with other beaters.

There are many members here who spend a lot of time trolling through the listings on e bay looking to grab a bargain. Their hard work is spoiled by someone advertising to the world that there is a potential rarity available.

There are some exceptions to this principal, for example if you have identified a seller who is trying to sell a fake. Clearly in this case it is in everyones interests to expose this seller in order to protect some of the inexperienced members on this forum from spending hard cash on a dud.

Please do not take this as a personal criticism, just some friendly advice.

This is a subject that has been debated many times on the old forum and there are mixed opinions on it, however when Nick started this new forum he made comment on this in the following listing from "The Lounge"

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2

Please look at the first post by Nick on this link

Thanks

Hello Motorman

I do agree with you when you say that everybody has to share the information whenever there seems to be a HTF model on Ebay. That's the reason why I added the Ebay link to the item in my first post yesterday (with the post and its contents approved by Nick), so that everyone could view the item and put a bid on it if they wished. So I didn't mean to keep it to myself.. :

http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 1423.l2648

Granted. I was too fast on it, speaking about myself and thinking I would finally win the auction for a lower price.
However, I'm not sure - but I may be wrong - that people outside France can have access to the item since the seller has restricted his activity to that country only. Moreover, when you look at his feedback, the latest purchase - to my knowledge - by a foreign buyer has resulted in a negative feedback ('item not received')...
My first post was then to inform everyone that there was a HTF model on sale on Ebay.fr, that anyone was free to put a bid, but also to warn that there could be some restrictions regarding overseas bidding and payment methods...

David, for the avoidance of doubt that's the exact opposite of what i said.

By way of clarification: When you find a HTF variant on ebay keep it to yourself!! Do not advertise it to the world!!! I hope that clears up any ambiguity.

Many sellers absolutely refuse to use Paypal overseas so you are limited to cheques and bank transfers. I have run into this a number of times, especially with sellers from France. Fortunately I have a deal with other members of the forums I use in France, Germany, and the UK to pick up items I would like from sellers who will not ship to Canada. At this moment I have a Tomte green VW Beetle and a Matchbox K-49 Malteser Ambulance coming. It works well, but can add a wee bit to the shipping costs. However at least you can get the models you want, and usually at really great prices.

I think many sellers have been quite put off with ebay fees, the fact that ebay buyers can do no wrong, and the infamous "lost" shipments. This so far is the only solution I have come up with.

The only problem with paying by means other than paypal: You give up your "buyers rights" and neither ebay or paypal can help you if the item doesn't arrive or turns out to be fake or not as described.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
