Very interesting Mike, It looks like a regular wheels base and cab with a superfast box. I can't see any sign of it being messed about with either so you could have found something special, Lets see what eveyone else thinks.

Hello Mike and Nico! This looks like a very exciting model to me, but maybe not an early pre-pro because of the later tow slot on the front plastic base.
Please open the rear door, and show us a photo of the rear of this most interesting truck if you can. The very earliest truck box design does not have a door stop at the right top corner of the body. If yours has this door stop, and also has the rear bumper on the body, I agree with Nick's idea of the Superfast rear red body being installed to use up left over red regular wheel bases in 1970 during the changeover to all Superfast production. If this is the case, some young child enjoyed a VERY RARE Lesney in his toybox, and what a Great model you have found! Thank You for showing us this one........kwakers

This is the later rear box Mike, not an EARLY pre-production as the Seller thought. The value of it is not effected by that in my opinion, It is a rare model with a story just the same. I Believe the model is all original, and out of one of the very last regular wheel batches produced. Your red cab/ red box may be an actual factory color trial they assembled to see how that color might appear on the new Superfast version they were tooling up for. Your Seller seems to say that Vectis has sold another at one time, or has information on one similar to yours. Maybe others here at the Forum can help you further. Thanks for the added photos that still show a very original odd Lesney. kwakers

Really very nice find Mike. I can confirm that I have seen this combination yet. I think it's "intermezzo" prepro, not typically prepro, because it has not the early casting (as already mentioned by Dick). The colour was changed during the production by some models, like e.g. by 46c Mercedes 300 SE( original green colour has been changed to blue metallic, and there is also "intermezzo" prepro in silver). One of the red prepro was sold by Vectis on 2nd December 2008, Lot 377.
