"E" Type King Size Box
"E" Type King Size Box
On Nick's site as well as a couple of others I noticed several King Size models that were produced between 1965-67 were released in an "E" Type Box. Namely the K-7 Shelvoke & Drewry Refuse Truck, K-16-a Dodge Tractor Unit & Twin Tipping Trailers, K-17-a Ford D800 Articulated Low Loader with Case Bulldozer, and the K-18-a Dodge Kew Fargo Articulated Horse Transporter.
Having never seen any of them in any box other than a "Window" type box I am confused as to "E" Type box is for these models.
Is there such a box as an "E" Type Window box? Exactly what constitutes an "E" Type box for the above listed models?
I have read what constitutes an "E" Type King Size box on Pat's Lenseyonline but it was still no help clarifying what an "E" Type box is for these models.

Re: "E" Type King Size Box
Hi and welcome to the forum,
The box types basically follow the design of the 1-75's box styles, see this page as it is easier than trying to explain each box type.

Re: "E" Type King Size Box
Thanks for the info but I had seen that explanation as well.
As I am interested in only knowing what an "E" Type Box looks like for Kings Size models K-7b, K-16-a, K-17-a, and K18-a, this was no help.
This is an "E" Type box.
K-7b, K-16-a, K-17-a, and K18-a were not released in this type box. Or if they were, I have never seen one.
I am not concerned with sub-types of the "E" type box, I just want to see one (1) example of the "E" Type box for K-7b, K-16-a, K-17-a, and K18-a. Sorry for being so dense, but I was born in Missouri.

Re: "E" Type King Size Box
Hi, Yes that is an E type box, it is very similar to the earlier D type box but the MATCHBOX text is in a straight line where the D box it is in an arc, The F type box is the window box.

Re: "E" Type King Size Box
I think that the E boxes were discontinued before these models were introduced, so you won't find E boxes for them.
When these models were introduced they were packed in what I call the "F1" box, which was the window box with the plastic insert and the full panel picture on the reverse.
In fact these, and the K5-b, are the only models I've seen in F1 boxes, which leads me to believe that maybe these models were introduced at a time when the E boxes were being phased out and Lesney was still experimenting with its next wave of boxes. It took until the "F2" window box (the version with the cardboard pictorial insert and no hang tag) until most models were packed in window boxes.
For the record I've identified the following types of king size E (picture boxes) and F (window boxes):
E1 - end flaps; red "K" on box ends
E2 - slide/tray box; red "K" on box ends
E3 - end flaps; model picture on box ends
E4 - slide/tray box; model picture on box ends
F1 - plastic insert; full panel picture on rear; no hang tag
F2 - removable cardboard picture insert (except K2-b KW Dump truck, which has a plain blue insert); picture + blue and white line drawing on rear; no hang tag
F3 - removable cardboard picture or plain insert; picture + blue and white line drawing on rear; large hang tag
F4 - fixed plain cardboard interior, picture on outer box top showing line diagrams of model details; picture across full width on rear; small hang tag
F5 - fixed cardboard interior showing line diagrams of model details on upper panel which overhangs the model; picture across full width on rear; small hang tag
Has anyone spotted any more?

Re: "E" Type King Size Box
I thought the "E" Type box was phased out before K-7b, K-16-a, K-17-a, and K18-a were introduced. I just wanted to make sure, as here in the middle of desert of Matchbox Collecting (Memphis, TN) there was no one else to confer with.
Thank you so much Ozbox you have answered the one question.

Re: "E" Type King Size Box
Scroll down towards the end of the page http://www.darkens.net.nz/boxes.htm for pictures of the above boxes. I've described the E boxes as 'K' boxes (I've got one between E1 & E2 this one having targets showing special features). The ones having cellophane F as WIndow boxes - thanks to above I see I've missed the F3 as a variation.Ozbox wrote: For the record I've identified the following types of king size E (picture boxes) and F (window boxes):

Dear Mr. Jones,
I first want to say that I respect you IMMENSELY, and what you have done for the hobby. You have few, if any equals.
But I disagree with your view that K-7b, K-16-a, K-17-a, and K18-a were ever produced in an "E" Type box.
From everything I have read and seen to this point, an "E" type box has no plastic insert or window, and K-7b, K-16-a,
K-17-a, and K18-a were only sold with boxes that had a plastic insert or window. Therefore making those model available with ONLY an "F" type box.
Unless there is a "E" type box that has a window of some type, (And I can't find one listed anywhere) I don't see how you can say those particular models came with and "E" type box.
Granted, I could be missing something, as I'm well over sixty and most of my intellect is slipping.
The reason this is of great concern to me is that for the last 15 years I have been working on collecting every King Size model produced between 1960 and 1971 with every variation of box available. I am very close to achieving that goal, unless there is an "E" type box for those models.
Again, no disrespect to you sir, I just disagree with your view. But if you can prove the error of my way, that means I still need to hunt down those boxes. And hunting down more King Size models and boxes is always a good thing.
Thanks for understanding my concern.

Re: "E" Type King Size Box
Hi James.
The E boxes did have windows, The designation E type is just the style of box front which was current with the E type box for the 1-75 series.
Check these pages because they are all pictured here, the yellow and blue box front would be F type and the all yellow front would be the E types, At least that is my understanding of box types,
The D type box is very nearly the same as the E type except MATCHBOX is written in an arch on the D type and in a straight line on the E type.

I'm no expert on the Kingsize range so if I have got it wrong then someone tell me please, lol.
