63 Dodge crane windows

Post by ford_a_30 »

I have a windowless dodge crane and it lacks a winow post in the casting. I can't see very well into my other units but there is a hole in the window units of my others that would be secured in the roof post (if there is one). Can someone explain how the windows are held in place on this model?

Hi Ford_a_30
The window is inserted into the inner cabin and is secured in its position by the protrusions on the base plate (the rivet was planned on the roof originally, because the window has a hole for this rivet)

This is true.

This is not quite correct. The reason the window unit has a hole in it (for a rivet) is because the same window casting is shared with other dodge models and they do use a rivet to secure the window unit.

Joe, you are right, the same window is by e.g. 37c where is the rivet (but nobody knows what has been planned by 63c)

Don't forget the 4d stake truck. The crane truck already had the boom riveted on and the base riveted. I can see their desire to not want to have to rivet the window too.

Who knows how they would have held the windows in place on the planned (but aborted) Dodge tar wagon (IIRC that one was a Dodge) and the Dodge Coke truck.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
