K 8 Scammell Low Loader and Catterpillar tractor

Post by Wolfie Ginsburg »

The K8 Scammell truck as a tough and popular toy. This is evidenced by the number of playworn models one can find close to fifty years after production ceased.

The trailersare also survivors but tend to loose their towbars

The Caterpollar tractor seems more difficult to find - it was only released in a set with the Scammell and is more fragile

The most common set to find with its red hubs was the last one made - the Laing decal can be found in various thicknesses.

The earlier one with metal bubs

But the first one with Civil Engineering Contractors is difficult to find

That long decal is super hard to find!
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Well done, Wolfie, an excellent set of loader/tractor combos you have there! I prefer the loader with metal wheel hubs, it looks better and more realistic, IMHO.

Cheers,
Ken

Anyone who collects Kings will agree that the metal hubs were better

Fifty years later the tyres still fit snugly

With the red plastic hubs the tyres have become loose

And the metal ones look more realistic

I couldn't agree more. Lesney should have never stopped using the metal wheels on the Kings.
That's a wonderful collection of K-8's.

Lovely models once again Wolfie. I have the other 2 but am still yet to find a decent one with the thick lettering

I do not know which variation is rarer, if with long decals or with black base plate?

I know the long decals are pretty hard to find and I would rate them on the scarce to rare scale.
