Re: the "C" and "D" Boxes.
D1 and D2 differ by end flap typeface - D1 with serifs, D2 without regardless of whether they have 'new model' or not. (There are 'new model' D1 and D2 boxes) Vectis and some other auction houses and collectors (but not Pat) also list D3 and D4 boxes - D3 the same as D2 but with 2 dark blue sides in...

Re: Dr Jeep's eBay finds
Here's my Mercury 55d - I sold this, but I don't remember 2 colours of paint on it.DrJeep wrote: The other model of some interest is the 55d Mercury, which seems to have two colours of paint, with cream painted over white. Or is this normal for this model?

Re: Vectis
I spent about £150 on a few reg wheel variations & boxes I didn't have - but not rare. I would have spent a bit more but I hate not examining the models and boxes in hand - especially for rarer items. The rear rivet on the 31 Lincoln that sold for £800 looks nothing like those on any of my linco...

Re: #10 Pipe Truck Variation Question
Both of My Regular Wheel 10d Pipe Trucks also have an outline around 'ergonomic cab' rather than a raised platform - it's the chrome-plated plastic baseplate with a towing guide. I always thought my 2 examples were identical, but on inspection, the wording of 'pipe truck' below "Matchbox Series...

SF32 Maserati Bora
A nice little addition to my collection: A Maserati Bora with 5 Arch wheels and the 2nd type baseplate.
(and here's the 1st type baseplate for comparison)

56b Fiat 1500 Base
Hi, I was going through my collection, and I have a couple of the 56b Fiats, one green and one red - nothing rare or unusual about them, but I wondered why Lesney chose to use a black plastic base for this model, and why they didn't carry on using plastic bases afterwards? - A backlash from customer...
