Re: Other Early Crescent Toys
Here is my example of the Crescent pre-war saloon car:
I wonder if it is meant to have a spare wheel at the rear, hence the hole in the casting?- Sat Apr 23, 2016 6:28 pm

Re: #17 Mercedes Benz 220SE
Here are some more photos. Impy-17-red-1.jpg Impy-17-red-2.jpg Impy-17-red-3.jpg It is a fully-finished model in a production-line colour with spray-painted silver trim. As I understand it, a "development piece" (at least in the case of Matchbox) would more likely have base rivets that wer...

Re: #17 Mercedes Benz 220SE
Presumably it is a very late Impy version, but more than a straightforward cross-over, because the body casting has been modified to delete the jewelled lights, but it still has the usual base rivet. A further modification would have been necessary to delete the rivet and accommodate the screw-fitte...

Re: #17 Mercedes Benz 220SE
My metallic red Mercedes has the casting changed to remove the jewelled headlights - as was done for all the Flyers models, of course, but I haven't noticed this change affecting any other Impys. LoneStar-17-02.jpg There is spray-painted silver trim on the cast headlights, and the baseplate is the n...

Re: Early Small Scale Crescent
Yes your pump is certainly Crescent. The Slater's pump is smaller (OO scale) but more in scale with the garage. I don't think I have seen the record car with rubber tyres before, but it is quite likely original, since others in the series come that way. For replacement tyres, Steve Flowers lists som...

Re: Other Early Crescent Toys
The 1940 Crescent catalogue was done as a reproduction in the 1970s or 1980s. This is probably what was in the Vectis lot. Don't despair, they do turn up from time to time. Actually it's a compendium of Crescent information, the booklet includes an article from the trade magazine British Playthings ...

Re: Early Small Scale Crescent
Ewan's boxy little van is also Crescent (it has the same wheels as the other pieces), and, as he says, it comes in Carter Paterson, Royal Mail and Ambulance versions.

Re: Early Cast Toys by Unknown Makers
I believe the hollow-cast racer is Crescent again, but it is post-war model. Here's the evidence: a post-war garage set which includes the model. I think this was on eBay, it doesn't belong to me. Note the Crescent logo on the roof of the card garage building. Crescent-GarageSet.jpg The pumps and oi...

Re: Other Early Crescent Toys
Ewan, no.323 was listed in the 1938/39 catalogue as a Frying Pan! 324 was indeed the Police Car, also sold as no.374 "Calling all Cars" set. I can't find the civilian car in the catalogues, where did you see this as 323? I am sure your green racer is post-war only, as it is zinc diecast. M...

Re: Early Small Scale Crescent
Crescent-Garage.jpg Here's a photo of my example of the garage. All the pieces in the photo are by Crescent, except for the petrol pump, which is by Slater's (a 1950s model railway accessory). The bonneted light van is the one pictured in the 1940 catalogue and numbered A10. The MG-like roadster is...
