Re: bringing some order to describing colors
Here's the Ford pickup (upper) right up against the Rambler Marlin (lower). The DB4 is to the left. I'll come back to them later. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i386/aybcs89/VBD%20diecast/IMG_3190_zpsnukkucxs.jpg I first begin the process of running through the RAL color chart to find the close...

bringing some order to describing colors
Following a conversation I began in the 40a Bedford 7 Ton Tipper thread in Missing, Previously-Catalogued 1-75 RW Variations , I'll try to present what I feel is an improvement to how color variations can be catalogued. I don't collect Matchbox and didn't feel that I had the content necessary to do ...

Re: 40a Bedford 7 Ton Tipper
...I think that an imperfect solution is still a better solution than "light tan" vs 'dark yellow". I can't ague with that, but the difficulty seems to be in arriving at an imperfect solution which everyone agrees with and is prepared to use. As a way forward, could I suggest that yo...

Re: 40a Bedford 7 Ton Tipper
We actually went down precisely this path on the old Lefora Forum when discussing the various colours of the 42b Studebaker Lark. Although it seemed like the obvious solution, after an awful lot of toing and froing, we came to the conclusion that there were simply too many variables (mainly the way...

Re: Doh! Why won't you work?
Peeling up your finished work with even the best of painters tapes, even when using etching primer can be a problem with certain paints. Acrylics and acrylic hybrids seem to be the worst offenders. When you have to use such paints (for whatever reason), I've had luck with this method: Cut strips of...

Re: Doh! Why won't you work?
It seems you needed an etching primer first, Tamyia primer is probably for plastic surfaces more than metal surfaces and I would not expect it to work very well on the Tootsietoy metal which from the Thirties may be more supple than a modern Mazac (Zamac).GHOSTHUNTER. Paragraph 5. " Stripped t...

Re: 40a Bedford 7 Ton Tipper
First. I must say that I find you people's attention to minor details to be worrisome. But it keeps you off the streets, so that's a positive. Secondly, may I suggest that rather than tan, dark tan, light brown etc, that you use standardized colors? RGB, Pantone, RAL, BS381c, BS4800, Federal Standar...

Re: Thames Airborne green windows
Well...the "shadow" was not green paint. Why? Because the windows weren't painted. Someone cut green sort of foil to exact size and stuck them on the windows from the outside. Mystery solved. So I just peeled those green sticky bits off and it's a regular clear window version. :D That's t...

Doh! Why won't you work?
This project has been vexing me for two or three weeks. I bought a Tootsietoy Graham towncar a few years ago. I've recently been working on this area of my collection so I got it out of storage and had a look. I was disappointed. The paint on the body was a fairly vivid shade of green and coverage w...

Look! Up in the sky!
This is very different from what is usually posted here, being 10 1/4" (260mm) long. But it is new to me and I like it. I found it at a local antique shop and resisted it's pull for a month before giving in. I had one of these as a boy and abused it to the best of my ability. I don't know what ...
