Lesney Muffin the Mule |
|
Muffin the Mule was Lesneys first TV related model as the puppet was the star of his own BBC childrens TV show which was naturally called "Muffin the Mule", The contract to produce the Muffin puppet was owned by Moko who approached Lesney to make the puppet for them, Lesney made a ten piece muffin which consisted of the two halves of the head & neck, the two halves of the body, the rear legs and the two piece front legs, The model was fully articulated and it was suspended on four strings which had die cast finger rings at the ends. Muffin was painted white with a red saddle and harness and was liberally trimmed with black paint to the hooves, ears sholders, mane and eyes and with a touch of gold trim to the saddle and the harness to set it off, It was packaged in a white box illustrated in red yellow & black which like the model made no mention of Lesney but it did have Moko because they had put up the funds for this model to be produced. By all accounts the model was a very good seller and many were sold but the project came to a sudden and unexpected halt in 1955 when the presenter of the TV show Anette Mills died and the TV show was shelved. Although Muffin was not a wheeled model like most Lesney toys he is still sought after by Lesney collectors, It is not that hard to find but mint and boxed Muffins are few and far between so fetch high prices. |
