Lesney Matchbox Accessory pack A1a Esso pumps & sign |
|
With the success of the Matchbox 1-75 series Lesney decided to introduce some slightly larger pieces which were made to enhance the miniatures range, These were given the name "Accessory packs" and the Esso pumps & sign were the first of this new range which went on sale in late 1956, The set of three pumps were mounted on a paved platform or "island" with an attendant cast in ready to pump fuel, They were painted maroon and the attendant had a white painted hat and coat and an "Esso" decal was applied to each side of the pumps. The sign was painted off white to cream and had a larger "Esso" decal applied to each side, The decals on the sign are quite delicate because there is a void in the center of the sign casting so the center of the decals are not actually attached to anything and even gentle play can damage the decals. The Accessory packs were packaged in a box that resembles the current 1-75 boxes with blue extensions to the ends which had "No 1 Accesory Pack" printed on them. Soon after Lesney introduced their MG1 plastic garage and forecourt which had a recess to fit the pumps into. The set was deleted in 1963 to make way for the new A1b BP pumps & sign. |
