Lesney Matchbox Major pack M2b Bedford articulated freight truck |
|
The M2 Bedford TK articulated freight truck replaced the earlier S type Bedford walls ice cream lorry in late 1961. The choice of articulated trailer with a Bedford TK tractor unit was unusual because most TKs seen on the roads in those days were rigid bodied trucks. This model was quite an improvement on the previous issue because it had a clear or green tinted window unit and to add play value the trailer doors were seperate castings which could be opened and also the tractor unit had a black painted baseplate. The model originally had the livery of orange cab and trailer baseplate and doors and silver trailer body with red orange and black decals for "Davies tyres" and the front of the trailer had orange white & black "York Freightmaster" decals applied. This version could have knobbly black or grey plastic wheels or fine tread black or grey wheels on the later issues, The final run with Davies decals had a silver cab and dark red trailer with black baseplate. The axles used were always dome head with rounded ends. The livery remained in silver cab & dark red trailer but was fitted with yellow black & red "LEP International" decals and this version can be found with a black or dark red baseplate and doors. The model was packaged in 'C' or 'D' type boxes and there are two versions of the 'D' type box, the first shows the Davies tyres truck and the second shows the LEP truck. The grey wheeled versions and the silver cabbed Davis are quite hard to find, The model was deleted in 1966. |
"BP Exploration" decal applied over the top of the original decal. |
