Matchbox Superfast MB75-b Ferrari Berlinetta

The #75 Ferrari Berlinetta joined the Superfast range in 1970 and was deleted from the range at the end of the same year. The tow hook fitted to the regular wheels issues was removed from the seat mouldings, as were the quartet of cast exhaust pipes on the base at the same time to improve track performance on loops.
The baseplates also had deeper channels cut to allow the new standard plastic sprung suspension unit to be fitted, always with thin 11.2mm x 2mm solid or hollow 5 slot wheels.
The baseplates on these cars can be found both with and without ´Pat App´ as the central line of text. The body casting was altered by adding small cowls to the headlamps and a bonnet lip extension, as well as fractionally extending the rear rivit post to alter the stance of the toy.
The SuperFast issues were packed in ´G´ boxes and USA and Canada blisterpacks with copyright dates 1969 or 1970.
The first run in green clearcoat over silver primer was usually found packed in the 1969 USA blisterpacks which included the ´G´box.
Red clearcoat over pink primer SuperFast bodies fitted with regular ´realistic´ wheels were mostly packed in Matchbox Motorways along with other late ´F´ box production issues.
There are 2 shades of this red which exist in fairly equal quantities, bright or dark, and the shade depends upon the thickness of the pink primer under the candy coat. Most SuperFast production of the #75 Berlinetta were red without silver trim although a tiny minority of both the red and the green bodies were mask sprayed with silver trim as per all regular wheels issues and these cars fetch a small premium although home detailed examples may deceive some!
The final use of this tooling in 1970 or 1971 was to produce unassembled components for export to Brazil, which were painted and assembled there by Roly toys in colours of their own choice.
