Matchbox Superfast MB72-b Standard Jeep

Matchbox Superfast MB72-b Standard Jeep

The #72 Jeep joined the SuperFast range in 1970 and was packaged in ´G´ boxes or USA and Canada blisterpacks with copyright dates between 1969 -1971.
It was initially fitted with spiro pattern 12.5mm x 4mm balloon tyres which were also used on the Mack Dumper and Unimog. However, the vast majority produced had normal square profile 12.5mm spiro tyres. Black axle clips were the norm but some were fitted with dark red axle clips.
As with the rarest Dodge Cattle and Staketrucks, a very short run of these Jeeps (fitted with square profile wheels) were painted in the same bright lemon-yellow shade that is well known because it was applied to almost all regular ´realistic´ wheeled #33 Muiras.
The standard construction yellow was the most common shade applied although the same deeper orange-yellow also applied to both aforementioned Dodge trucks is also common.
This Jeep lasted less than 2 years in the SuperFast range even though the real version had a longer prodction life because Lesney made the new #2 Jeep with a large protruding chromed engine instead of modifying the #72 tool.
Note there are minor variations in the die sets which is shown in the lower edge of the tailgate and its hinges, Both types of tailgate and hinges are equally common.
The final issue has a filled in or altered spare wheel center as shown in the photograph of this casting variation.
