Matchbox Superfast 58-c DAF Girder Truck

The DAF Girder truck joined the Superfast range in 1970 and stayed for less than 2 years and it can be found packaged in ´G´ boxes with artwork featuring either a white body or more commonly a green body as well as all USA or Canada blisterpacks with copyright dates between 1969 and 1971.
There is a further collectable minor variation between ´G´ boxes - the green DAF can have either green or black prongs retaining the girders.

The body casting was modified to accept a longer still bright red plastic baseplate with an extra rivit between the axles that retained the rear wheel sets with a standard long axle clip retaining the front axle.
This DAF was always fitted with 11x2mm thin commonly hollow (rarely solid) 5 slot hot foiled wheels. Perhaps for safety reasons, the blunt spikes cast as part of the load bed which secured the girders were deleted and 2 holes cast in the centre of the loadbed to secure the black plastic 4 pronged clip , (an identical component used on the #10 Pipe truck) that retained the girders and seemed equally capable of causing eye injuries !. A minority of baseplates lack the ´Pat App´ legend.

The initial run was painted in the same white as all Regular wheels issues however the vast majority of SuperFast DAFs were metallic lime green of the yellower shade applied to a minority of SF#62 Mercury Cougars or in the metallic lime green shade applied to the SF#31 Lincoln which was very similar but not identical.
No further use was made once this casting was deleted from 1-75 series in 1972.
