Matchbox Superfast MB51-c AEC 8 wheeled tipper

Matchbox Superfast MB51-c AEC 8 wheeled tipper

The #51 AEC Mammoth Major 8 wheel tipper joined the SuperFast range in 1970 and stayed for less than 2 years. It was only packaged in ´G´ boxes and all USA or Canada blisterpacks with copyright dates between 1969 and 1971.
All were fitted with 11x2 mm thin 5 slot SuperFast wheels.
The same blue glazed Muira yellow chassis cab with silver tipper were carried over from the regular wheels issues as was the chrome baseplate. The two rarest variations are a short run with the chassis cab painted in normal construction yellow and the otherwise standard unplated gray plastic baseplate issue.

The AEC's were fitted with yellow 'Pointer' labels which could have a bluish or greenish background but models without labels are known to exist.
Vectis have sold one AEC that had been fitted with the regular wheels issue 'Douglas' labels however this model may be a trial piece but it can easily be faked by swapping the tipper back from a regular wheel Douglas issue or applying unused Douglas labels that were sold off to collectors from the factory in the early 1980s.

There are two minor casting variations to be found, one is to the tipper body which can have the block over the tipper guide wider on the left or on the right, And the chassis also has casting variations to the chassis rails between the second and third axles. These casting variations are due to slightly different left and right hand molds so are equally common,
Note, these casting variations have not been included in the variation table.
There was no further use of this tooling after its retirement and this casting was not amongst those assembled in Brazil.
